Food Bank for New York City

Food Bank Bites

“CookShop’s lessons have students readily eating vegetables in our cafeteria that my nutritionist and our parents have told me they were not eating before.

CookShop is an essential weapon in our healthy living– healthy eating fight to change the obesity rates in our school and in our neighborhood.”

—C.S. 21 Principal Harold Anderson

Soup Kitchen

Operated out of the Food Bank's Community Kitchen & Food Pantry of West Harlem, our full-service soup kitchen prepares and serves approximately 8,000 free meals every month. In an effort to meet the needs of a diverse group of New Yorkers in need — including working adults, children, homeless, seniors and people with disabilities — our soup kitchen provides three dining options:
  • Congregate Meals: New Yorkers are welcomed to the Food Bank's Community Kitchen every weekday for nutritious, and delicious, meals served in our dining area. Our Congregate Meal services provide dinner Monday through Friday and breakfast on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
  • Family Meals: Full meals, prepared and packaged at the Community Kitchen, are available to be picked up and brought home by eligible New Yorkers to enjoy in a family setting, Monday through Friday.

The Community Kitchen's meals are prepared by a staff of professional cooks who emphasize the nutritional content of their menus.

To learn more about the Community Kitchen's soup kitchen, located at 252 W 116 Street in Harlem, contact Jesse Taylor, Senior Director of Community Kitchen & Senior Food. Contact Heather Joseph, Volunteer Services Manager, for volunteer opportunities.
